Regional center for English learning opened in Kruševac
In the Centre for training of NBC staff in Kruševac, a Regional Centre for Independent English Learning was opened on 18.11.2010. The cabinet is equipped with modern IT and multimedia equipment and the donation, through PELT program, is provided by the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the British Council.The opening of the centre in barracks "Car Lazar" was attended by Acting Assistant Minister for Human Resources, Brigadier General Sladjan Djordjević, Chief of the Training and Doctrine Command J-7 of the General Staff, Major General Petar Čornakov, as well as the representatives of embassies of donor countries and members of the British Council. Brigadier General Sladjan Djordjevic emphasized the importance of learning English in the context of raising the overall operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces and the commitment of the entire defence system to the professionalization process.
The Agency for International Language Coordination and experts in military English in the project "English in peace support operations" has declared the PELT program as one of the most successful programs in the region.
Self-Access English Language Learning Centre opens
The Defence Attaché of the Netherlands, Lieutenant Colonel Ben Steinebach, speaking on behalf of donor countries, stressed the importance of learning English as a prerequisite for international military cooperation. In particular, a more intensive involvement of Serbia in the Partnership for Peace programme. On this occasion he welcomed the recent statement of Defence Minister Dragan Šutanovac regarding the inclusion of the Serbian Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the European Union.Lt. Gen. Čornakov and LtCol. Steinebach marked the opening of the centre by a ribbon cutting ceremony.
A modern Self-Access English Language Learning Centre was opened at the airport Batajnica on 04.02.2011. A multimedia cabinet is equipped with modern computers, digital video equipment and the latest software for learning English. There is also a permanent internet connection that creates the possibility of “distance” learning. The Opening Ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Sladjan Djordjević, Acting Assistant Minister for Human Resources, Brigadier General Sreto Malinović, Deputy Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Brigadier General Jovica Draganić, Chief of Training and Doctrine Command, and defence attachés of the donor countries. The Ministry of Defence has recognized the importance and the need for learning English not only as a necessity but also as a matter of accountability, efficiency and interoperability of the defence system, said General Djordjević and particularly thanked the representatives of donor countries for the cooperation so far. The Project of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the field of English Language Training (PELT) is the partnership project of the Ministry of Defence and the donor countries – United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. The British Council in Belgrade, the Agency for International Language Coordination, and English language experts have advisory/expertice function in the project implementation.
