World Press Photo in Serbia
The Netherlands Embassy, together with the OSCE Mission in Serbia, EXIT Festival, Cultural Centre Dom omladine and Studio M, is organising this year’s World Press Photo exhibition from 3 to 17 July 2012 in Novi Sad and from 20 July to 2 August 2012 in Belgrade
World Press Photo, established in 1955, organises the world’s largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest. Over 100.000 photographs were submitted for this year’s contest, which illustrates the sheer size and subsequent impact of the competition. The prizewinning photographs are comprised into a travelling exhibition, which is visited by over 2 million people in more than 50 countries every year. The Netherlands Embassy is proud sharing with the Serbian public this year’s winning photographs, first in Novi Sad and afterwards in Belgrade.
The mission of World Press Photo, based in Amsterdam, is to stimulate the work of photo journalists and to increase awareness of developments from around the world. The exhibition is a platform furthering press freedom and discussing issues that affect photo journalism. Accompanying activities of the exhibition will include a debate on media freedom and a workshop for young Serbian photo journalists.
